District 65 Looking for Input on Strategic Plan

district65This fall, D65 will embark on a strategic planning process that will set priorities and guide their work over the next three years. In order to develop a strong, effective plan that reflects the issues and concerns of all stakeholders, they are encouraging members of the public to get involved. Throughout this process, there will be several opportunities for feedback and collaboration. This first two are:

1. Serve on a Committee
What does it mean to serve on a committee? The strategic plan will be developed in collaboration by five working committees with each one focusing on one of the following key areas: high quality teaching and learning; thriving workforce; safe and supportive school climate; family and community engagement; and financial sustainability. In addition, there will be an external advisory committee made up of a broad and representative group of community partners.

Who can serve? Each committee will be comprised of 10-12 members, based on an open nomination process, and will include at least one student, parent, teacher, principal, district administrator, and community member. Committees will also include subject matter experts in each area of focus and will reflect the diversity of our community.

How can I get involved? To nominate yourself or someone else for either a working committee or the external advisory committee, please review the application criteria and submit your completed application to input@district65.net by Friday, September 26, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. Applications can also be picked up and/or dropped off in the main office of each District 65 school by the same deadline. 2. Provide Feedback on the Draft Mission Statement
How was the statement developed? The draft mission statement was developed based on stakeholder feedback collected during the superintendent search process and through Dr. Goren’s community and school outreach since joining the district in May. In addition, members of the Board of Education and the Superintendent’s Leadership Team reviewed and offered input on the proposed statement. Below is the draft mission statement for District 65:

Through the collective efforts of students, educators, family, and community, we will inspire and prepare each student to achieve academically, grow personally, and contribute positively to our global society by providing an engaging and enriching educational experience in a creative and collaborative environment. Every Child, Every Day, Whatever it Takes.

How can I give my feedback? Share your thoughts on the draft mission statement by sending an email to input@district65.net or by visiting the main office of any one of our schools and completing a feedback card. Input must be received by Friday, September 26, 2014 at 5 p.m. The revised mission statement will be presented at the Board meeting on October 20, 2014.
