District 65 Needs Everybody Reads Fluency Tutors

Are you interested in helping students with their reading? If so, please consider attending a fluency tutor training for the D65 Everybody Reads Fluency Program.

What is Everybody Reads? -It is a District 65 program in which volunteers are trained in a specific tutoring technique that provides support to classroom teachers in their reading fluency curriculum. Children who read fluently are better able to understand what they are reading as they read it, and retain the information they read more easily.

How and When Can I Help? — As a trained volunteer, you will work with one elementary school teacher (2nd-5th grade) and 2-4 students (one on one) throughout the school year. Tutoring sessions occur during school hours based upon the teachers’ and the tutors’ schedules. It is most helpful if volunteers can to come to school one to two times a week for about an hour each visit.

Where Do I Go to Get Trained? –Two training sessions for interested volunteers will be held in the District 65 Hill Administration Building 1500 McDaniel
Street, Evanston. To sign up click on this link or choose ONE of the following training session dates and RSVP to Michelle Mehlis, Coordinator of D65 Reading Fluency Volunteers at fluencytutors@district65.net or 847-971-3856.
