Open Studios Evanston: Family Events – Sat. Oct. 11

During Open Studios Evanston on October 11, artists are opening their studio and gallery doors to the general public from 1 – 5 p.m.
Several artists will also host special events, talks or demonstrations, see the schedule below. All events are free and open to the public!
1 – 1:30 p.m.

Bottle & Bottega will offer a FREE Painting Party 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. for guests of the art walk   Try your hand at being the artists while you get step-by-step instruction from a Bottle & Bottega artist to complete a mini-masterpiece on a take-home 6×6 canvas!

Maggie Meiners at 1610 Payne Street
Talk: For the Love of Art: How to Build and Define a Personal Collection
Collector and photographer, Maggie Meiners discusses how to begin an art collection.  She focuses on the emerging market and sheds light on the various venues for art collecting from internet sales to galleries to art fairs. She discusses several local and well-known artists and cultivates an understanding of the importance of the artist-collector relationship. Maggie’s personal collection and her experience as a photographer offers a unique artist-collector point-of-view.

Demonstration on sculpture building involving soldering steel, and stretching fabric over an armature

Katherine Orr at 832 Dempster Street
Katorriginal Art at La Petite Galerie Lapin
Painter Katherine Orr will do a demonstration on painting with brou de noix from France, a special walnut stain. The crystalline powder creates many special effects when mixed with water and ink.

Talk: Get to know your camera”, basic photography concepts and shooting ideas followed by a Q&A

Demo: Cynthia VonOrthal will demonstrate how to sculpt a puppet head out of clay
to create a character rich in personality, as well as the steps used to complete
the puppet once the head is sculpted.

Free Mini Knitting Lesson

If you would like to try your hand at knitting, enjoy a free mini lesson between 4 5 p.m.. Materials will be provided. Knitting is a great portable and social way to express your creativity!
