The e-Initiative Project is excited to host a screening of critically acclaimed movie, Selma. Following the movie there will be a dialogue moderated by our very own, Art Norman, Special Contributor, NBC-5 Chicago. This event is FREE and being held for youth ages 11-18, Saturday, April 11, 2015, 12:00PM at Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster Street, Evanston, IL 60201. Food will be served. All participants must pre-register online at http://selmaevanston.
This much anticipated, inaugural event will provide the youth an opportunity to engage in meaningful conversation and share their perspectives on the Civil Right Movement as well as the current state of the African American community and their role in it.
“Discussing movies like Selma are excellent opportunities that play an important role in educating our our youth today… understanding their history is an integral part of helping youth make a difference in their future…in light of Ferguson protests, racial profiling, institutional racism etc…this event will help bridge the gap between the history that may seem so distant and the social realities of what our youth are experiencing today…”
