Lovers and Madmen, Northwestern’s only student theatre group devoted to bringing classical works to the Evanston community, returns in 2016 to host a workshop series for middle school students interested in acting Shakespeare.
This February and March, we will be holding a 5 week long program for students in 7th – 8th grade. The focus will be on introducing the students to two of Shakespeare’s most famous works: Macbeth and Twelfth Night. Students will learn about what life was like in England 400 years ago, practice techniques professional Shakespearean actors use today, and have the opportunity to perform a scene from either of the two plays for an audience of family, faculty, and friends in one of Northwestern’s black box theatres. In addition, student in the program are invited to meet the cast of Lovers and Madmen’s mainstage production of Twelfth Night and will receive a free ticket to the show when it opens in April.
Workshops meet on Saturday mornings from 10am – 12pm on Northwestern’s campus beginning February 6th – March 5th. There is no registration fee, or cost of any kind. Space is limited so sign up soon! Contact our Education Director, Courtney Quinn, at firstname.lastname@example.org
