Kids Pop Concert – Sun. April 10

Join Early Childhood parents Gail Katz-Frech and Bob Frech for a concert by their children’s pop band Human-Tim + Robot-Tim. Human-Tim + Robot-Tim have been making music for kids and families around the Chicago area since 2009. The unique human/robot make-up of the band allows them to create music that is both danceable and thinkable. Musically, the band encompasses a broad range of styles and influences, falling somewhere on the “Indie-Rockin’ Twangy Electro-Folk” spectrum.

$25 per family.

Discount Concert Tix for Evanston Students

Low Strung would love to play for Evanston School students and their families. We are the world’s largest all-cello rock band and we have performed nationwide and in Switzerland at the Montreux Jazz Festival. All of our members are undergraduates at Yale University. 
You can hear some of our music here.
Tickets to Saturday night’s concert are advertised on our website for $17 for adults and $12 for students. We have 100 tickets available for Evanston Public School students and their families for $10 per ticket. If your students would like to claim any number of these tickets they can email us here.

Evanston Children’s Choir Holiday Concert – Sat. Dec. 20

The Evanston Children’s Choir holds its holiday concert celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 3 p.m. at Alice Millar Chapel, 1870 Sheridan Road.

Directors Gary Geiger, Monica Blacconeri and Bryan Johnson with pianist Ellen Morris will lead the entire choir in the free performance.

Voluntary donations are graciously accepted.

Limited free parking is available behind the chapel for the less-mobile. Plentiful, inexpensive parking is available nearby at the Church Street Self Park, 525 Church St.

A group of suburban school kids are visited by a stranger from another world, who is certain that they are the mythical heroes who can rescue her people!

…how does she know? A board game told her, of course!

Come see “Heroes by Chance”, a funny, heart-felt tale about friendship and believing in yourself at etc. Music School, presented by our talented KidShows (gr. 4-7) cast!

Youth Chorus for 4th-8th Graders

Would your 4th-8th grader like to sing high-quality music and perform with other young singers from across theEvanston/Skokie community?  Rehearsing on the half-day Wednesdays and one Sunday a month, Youth Chorus of the North Shore offers a manageable commitment at a convenient time.

When:  D65 1/2-day Wednesdays and 1 Sunday a month

etc. Music School Presents “Lip Sunk” – July 17 & 18

11147204_805200556261948_8607151943351319309_oOver the past 4 weeks, the etc. Music School Presents ensemble (gr. 9-12) have worked with Director Mike O’Mara and talented summer staff to create, stage and rehearse their sixth all-original, world-premiere musical!

Come enjoy “Lip Sunk”, and we guarantee you’ll gain a new appreciation for the inner workings of teen pop groups. Or, at least, you’ll get a few chuckles out of them.

The show is Friday and Saturday evening, all at 7 P.M. at Noyes Cultural Arts Center (927 Noyes St., Evanston), Rm. 213 on the second floor.

Tickets are $10.00 general admission at the door, and it’s an intimate space this summer (about 70 seats MAX), so get there early and get in line for your pick of the seating!

Create Music at the Library in July

Saturday, July 11, 1-2pm. Community Meeting Room, Main Library. S.O.U.L Creations: Akwaaba. Experience an interactive West-African drumming workshop. Drum, sing and dance to ancient rhythms of the Malinke people from the West African kingdom of Mali. Bring your own musical instruments to play!  Drums and additional percussion instruments will be provided.  All ages are welcome.

Tuesday, July 14, 7pm. Community Meeting Room, Main Library. Meet your neighbor’s folk music with Jutta & the Hi-Dukes at this all-ages, interactive performance. Explore the world of rhythm with Evanston’s eclectic, energetic, multi-instrumentalist band as they transport you on an exciting worldbeat dance tour of Balkan, Gypsy, Dixie, Klezmer, and Greek music.

Fountain Square Festival – June 27 & 28

FSAF_web_12.jpgThe 36th Annual Fountain Square Art Festival, Evanston’s salute to summer and the arts, presented by the Evanston Chamber of Commerce, returns on Saturday and Sunday, June 27 and 28, with more art, a brand new Brewfest, children’s activities from the Evanston Art Center which will feature an interactive art puzzle for all, and several other engaging projects.

From paintings to photography, sculptures, metalwork, craft beers to pizza, a full plate of offerings for the entire family are on the docket. The Fountain Square Arts Festival opens the gates (the festival is free but donations are suggested) at 10 a.m. and will continue to 9 p.m. on Saturday. The new time will accommodate the pop/rock music stage and the Brewfest sampling. Sunday hours are 10 a.m. ‘til 6 p.m.

Custer Street Fair – June 20-21

splash_03.jpgVisit Custer’s Last Stand Festival of the Arts.

For sale: 250 Artists and craftspeople exhibit and sell paintings, ceramics, pottery, photographs, jewelry, graphic arts, wearable art, country and home craft, antiques and collectables. They are joined by 150 local businesses and commercial exhibitors who put on an old fashioned Sidewalk Sale.

For kids: In Eiden Park, there will be free balloon sculptures from the teen clowns of Starfish Learning Center, and the amazing Jugglerman-Adam Zeisler. Piccolo Theatre presents Prof. Theophilis Leaming’s Medicine Show Extravaganza. Fifty variety performers perform throughout the fair with juggling, magic, comedy, music, aerial acts and stage shows in the theatre in the Evanston Arts Depot.

Food: Over 30 food vendors offer a reasonably priced international menu featuring the old favorites and new fare.

Entertainment: The Festival Stage has FlashBack Chicago, The Terré Cohen Orchestra conducted by Rich Maisel, Bopology, Blake and Blue, Jack Hubble Jazz Outfit, and John Temmerman’s Jazz Obsession Quartet. Also featuring Canadian folk star David Francey, Wailin’ Walter, the Kent McDaniel Band, the Shoreliner Chorus and Billy J. Ivers & The Lonesome City Bluegrass Band.

The Show Stage features a Native American Pow Wow by The American Indian Center. Also Kraig Kenning, Christopher Greene & New Perspective, the all female Hurricane Saxophone Quartet, The Mark Cleveland Band, plus Corky Siegel and Frank Donaldson.

Check out the theatre offerings of the Piccolo Theatre at PiccoloTheatre.com in their intimate theatre in the Evanston Arts Depot.

Admission: $1 suggested donation; donations are not required.

This year’s Fair hours are from 10:00 am till 9:00 pm.

Winds, Brass & Percussion Recital – Sun. June 7

Enjoy a recital of music featuring Music Institute of Chicago wind, brass and percussion students.  The Music Institute offers private instruction, group classes and a range of chamber music, orchestral opportunities and jazz for winds, brass and percussion for all ages and levels of experience.  Event is free and open to the public.
