Church Picnic and School Supply Fundraiser – Sun. Aug. 16

All are invited to join the four Evanston Episcopal Churches on Sunday, August 16 at 10 a.m. at Burnham Shores (Hamilton Street and the lakefront) for worship followed by a picnic with games for children. All children are invited to attend with their backpacks and school supplies to be blessed. Everyone is welcome. Please bring a chair or blanket so that you can sit comfortably.

There is no charge to attend; however, a free will offering will be collected and given to COPE (Caring Outreach by Parents in Evanston) to help them reach their goal of $15,000 to reach at least 600 District 65 students in need and provide them with the supplies necessary to feel fully prepared to start school in the fall. In addition, you are encouraged to bring new school supplies which will be collected and delivered to Lawrence Hall Youth Services in Chicago. Lawrence Hall will provide these supplies to their growing population of children with experiences of abuse or neglect, poverty, homelessness, addiction, delinquency and special education needs.

We hope you will join us for this great event and that you will contribute to COPE (with a monetary donation) and/or Lawrence Hall Youth Services (with a donation of new school supplies).

See you at the lakefront!

Help Provide School Supplies for D65 Kids

This summer, District 65 is partnering with COPE (Caring Outreach by Parents in Evanston) and the District 65 PTA Council to provide school supplies for students in need. With over 40% of students qualifying for free or reduced-priced meals, there are many families who need our support. Together, we can make sure our children are ready to start a new school year prepared to learn and ready for success.

Individuals and organizations are invited to make donations to help reach this year’s fundraising goal of $15,000. By attaining this goal, we can support at least 600 District 65 students in need and provide them with the necessary school supplies. Any donation makes a difference and is greatly appreciated.

COPE is working to organize community support and raise funds, District 65 will source and order the supplies, and the PTA Council will coordinate volunteers to assemble and distribute supplies so all funds raised can be dedicated to the cost of supplies. For more information about donating, please call COPE at 847-905-6332 or email careteam@evanstoncope.org.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and our schools!

First Annual 3 on 3 Soccer Festival – Sat. July 18

This is a family friendly event. Although the partipants will all be adult men and women, kids are encouraged to come watch. There will be live music following the games (approximately 5pm) as well as culinary delights from Hummingbird Food truck.

Mission: The Goals are not the Goal!
The purpose of this festival is to celebrate the beautiful game of soccer and to celebrate the diverse group of people who play the game. Everyone who plays is a winner. Score will not be kept and there will not be referees. Everyone will play the same number of games. The tournament will provide a great opportunity to bring friends, family, and neighbors together to enjoy a festive day of soccer, food, and music.

Ages: All players must be the appropriate age for the age group you are playing in. There will be three different age brackets (30+, 40+, and 50+).

Uniforms: Ridgeville will not provide team jerseys. Teams are responsible for wearing some sort of unified color. Pennies will be available for teams who wear conflicting colors.

Number of Players per Team: There is no maximum, but teams should show up with no less than four players. A healthy roster has five-six players. Extra players are required to ensure that games can continue if unexpected absences occur.

Game Duration: 20 minutes straight. No halftime break. Every team is guaranteed at least three games.

Substitution: Subs must come on at midfield and can happen any time the ball goes out of bounds or there is a stoppage of play.

Kick offs: Kick offs may be kicked in any direction. Ball must be over the mid-line to score. No throw ins, all balls are kicked in from the sidelines. All kicks are indirect. Players must move 5 yards away from any indirect kick.

The Goal Box: No one allowed in the goal box area. If ball stops moving in box, the defensive team can get it. Please do not play “goalie” and hang out in front of your goal. That is not in the spirit of the game.

Slide Tackles: Absolutely NO slide tackles.

Fees: $50 per team.

Support Young Evanston Artists One Dime at a Time!

Whole Foods - One Dime at a Time During the months of April, May and June, Young Evanston Artists (YEA!) will be the beneficiary of Whole Foods Market One Dime at a Time Fundraiser.

One Dime at a Time allows Whole Foods customers who bring their own bags to direct the cashier to donate their dime credit to the store’s chosen non-profit through the registers at Whole Foods Market. This program supports a local non-profit and reduces the community’s impact on the environment at the same time.

Starting April 1st, Whole Foods Market South (1111 Chicago Ave.) will collect dime donations to benefit Young Evanston Artists, a nonprofit volunteer driven YEA organization whose mission is to provide the children of Evanston with a unique forum and experience for the exhibition and performance of their art.

The 27th annual YEA! Day, to be held Saturday May 17th, 2014, serves as the culminating arts event for many Evanston schools and invigorates their arts programs throughout the year.
