Evanston Hockey invites boys and girls to Robert Crown Center on Saturday, Nov. 7, for a Try Hockey For Free clinic as part of Come Play Hockey Month.
Starting at 2:10 p.m., local youth, ages 4 to 9, are encouraged to experience ice hockey for the first time and learn the basic skills in a fun, safe environment.
“We are proud to once again host a Try Hockey for Free event and look forward to welcoming families to our home rink, Robert Crown Center, to try the great sport of ice hockey,” said Evanston Hockey President Matt Devine. “Our goal is for these families to enjoy watching their kids learn new skills with big smiles on their faces.”
Evanston Hockey coaches and members of the Evanston Hockey high school team will be on hand to run players through basic skills, drills and a scrimmage. Participants will receive a goodie bag with stickers, pencils and participation certificate.
Evanston Hockey encourages those who have access to equipment, to please bring it. If participants do not have any equipment, they need to bring:
- A loose-fitting pair of sweatpants or snow pants
- A pair of gloves (they don’t need to be hockey gloves- mittens are fine)
- A helmet
- A smile
Robert Crown Center has skates, and Evanston Hockey has a limited amount of equipment available to lend. Participants should arrive 45 minutes early to check in and get fitted for any equipment.
USA Hockey’s Try Hockey program, with the support of the National Hockey League and NHL member clubs, among others, is designed to provide youth hockey associations a national platform to introduce new kids to the sport.
