Outdoor Ice Skating Now Open!

Outdoor ice rinks are now open at all three Evanston locations: Ackerman Park, Baker Park, and Arrington Lagoon at Dawes Park. As weather conditions change, visit the City’s website or text SKATE to 847-448-4311 for an automated response, to check the Current Outdoor Rink Status 

Rink Locations:

  • Ackerman Park, Central St. at McDaniel Ave.
  • Baker Park, Forest Ave. at Keeney St.
  • Arrington Lagoon at Dawes Park, Sheridan Rd. at Church St.

Outdoor Ice Skating at Four Parks in Evanston
When the winter is cold, but not frigid, strap on some ice skates and enjoy an outdoor winter sport. If you live in or near the 9th Ward, the Kamen Park East Rink, which is part of Ridgeville Park District, is free and open to all residents. The Kamen Field House is open occasionally for warming. Hours are posted on the window.The rink is open through February 14 on these days and times: Monday-Friday, 4-9 p.m., Saturday-Sunday, 12-9 p.m. Kamen Park East is at Barton Ave. and South Blvd. (one block west of Ridge Ave.).Additionally, City of Evanston parks crews were able to flood the three outdoor ice rinks for residents to enjoy skating outdoors at neighborhood parks this weekend. This year, community members can skate at:

  • Bent Park, Central St. at Cowper Ave.
  • Arrington Lagoon at Dawes Park, Sheridan Rd. at Church St.
  • Baker Park, Forest Ave. at Keeney St.

Baker and Bent Parks officially opened to the public on Saturday, January 10, while the Arrington Lagoon location is expected to open on Sunday, January 11. Signs will be posted to alert residents when ice is thick enough to skate safely. Please note that attendants will not be on duty to supervise rinks and shelter houses will be closed.

“The Nutcracker on Ice” – Dec. 12-14

The Nutcracker on Ice,” Robert Crown Community Center’s beloved winter ice show, will celebrate its 40th year entertaining families with four performances this holiday season.

Two matinees and two evening performances of the special holiday show, performed by Robert Crown Center ice skating school students and competitive figure skaters, will be held the weekend of December 12-14, 2014. Show times are Friday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, December 13 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, December 14 at 2:30 p.m.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary, every 40th person who attends a performance will receive a free pass to a Nutcracker-themed public skate session on Sunday, December 21. The special session will be held  from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Robert Crown Center’s main rink.

“The Nutcracker on Ice” features hundreds of skaters of all ages telling the familiar tale of Clara and her musical holiday adventures. Exquisite costumes, Tchaikovsky’s familiar music, and exciting special effects bring the characters to life, making this the perfect family show to spread the holiday spirit.

Tickets are $9 for general seating and $10 for reserved seating. Group discounts are available. New this year: general seating tickets are available online at www.cityofevanston.org/crown starting November 15. General and reserved tickets may be purchased in advance at Robert Crown Center or at the door, as well as by phone with a major credit card at 847-448-8258.
