Stand Against Racism – Friday, April 25

Please join the YWCA Evanston/North Shore for the third annual Stand Against Racism on Friday, April 25. The Stand Against Racism™ is a movement of the YWCA that aims to eliminate racism by raising awareness through its annual event. Individuals and groups are invited to join the public stand all along Ridge Avenue and on Church St. from Ridge Ave. west to McCormick Blvd., from 12:40-12:55 p.m. on Friday April 25, which will be the culmination of varied activities throughout that week.

A Young Women’s Inspirational Luncheon – Sat. Feb. 22

Thousands have been inspired to change their paths in life after hearing guest speaker VaLarie Humphrey’s words of encouragement. This event will be hosted by the City of Evanston, in partnership with the YWCA Evanston/North Shore.

Shop Local, Shop Evanston, Support Non-Profits

EWTEvanston Works Together is a Shop Local, Shop Evanston campaign that benefits clients of Connections for the Homeless, Youth Job Center, and the YWCA Evanston/North Shore.

Please support these organizations on August 6, 13, 20, and 27, participating local retailers will donate 5% of their sales to help unemployed local area residents develop job skills and find work.

By shopping and dining locally you help our local economy, you help local unemployed residents find work, and you help show that Evanston does, indeed, WORK TOGETHER!

Martin Luther King Observances in Evanston

There are events scheduled all over the community for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, beginning Saturday, January 19.  For a complete list, see the City of Evanston website.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is Monday, January 21. The Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center, Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, Noyes Cultural Arts Center and Ecology Center will be closed. The Main Library and the North Branch will be open. The Chicago Ave./Main St. Branch will be closed.

Free drop-in gym sessions will be held on Monday, January 21 at Robert Crown Community Center. Times are 9-11am for grade school age children; Noon-3pm for high school students and 4-7pm for adults. For more information, please call 847/448-8258.

Aristotle Peers (formerly Peer2Peer Tutors) will offer free tutoring for students in grades K-12 from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday, January 21 at Creative Coworking, 922 Davis St. in downtown Evanston. Tutors will work with students on homework, study skills, test preparation and more! Parents are encouraged to stay for snacks and conversation. More>>>
